I remember one management yelling to her trainer "your gross white girl hair is everywhere" or when I once shared about my family's cultural tradition the Executive Director scoffed and laughed at it and then, insinuated it was dumb superstition. The colleges and universities aren't actually changing by having students on campus... or else why would Posse have 30 year relationships with the same colleges and universities? There are many passionate and wonderful individuals working hard for a mission they believe in. No training, no conferences, no freedom to create or make things better. Like another former employee has stated, Posse's methodology is stuck in the 90s with warm-ups and koosh-based discussions. There's some great camaraderie among your equally-miserable lower level staff.Anything the students have to offer you in terms of fulfillment is outweighed by being overworked and paid near-poverty wages in some of the most expensive cities in the country...while the CEO makes six figures. The highlight of my employment was writing my "peace out" email. National trainings are fun because your get to interact with other entry-level staff members (who are awesome!) and you get to travel to New York but the trainings are impractical and/or irrelevant.Amazing Scholars, dedicated staff, and making a difference.The students and the staff. It's a waste of time, like what was mentioned previously. The word "hierarchy" is thrown around more in this office than in any place I have ever worked and it has been made clear, nationally, which positions are on the very bottom of the list. Not to mention long tedious hours of incredibly basic data entry and "logistics management", which actually just consists of printing papers and packing supplies for other people in the office. The organization as a whole isn't interested in changing. The office environment is often fun-loving and again, lots of enthusiasm. If they made new changes and had more opportunity for growth there wouldn't be so much of a turnover at Posse.The staff are downright some of the best people you will ever meet.
